102nd & 3rd Ave [SW Corner] (September 2, 2012)
This block-long complex in Spanish Harlem houses two FDNY companies and one NYPD precinct house. Fire Department: Engine Company 53 (organized in 1885) and Ladder Company 43 (started in 1913) joined forces in 1974, and swiftly became known as "El Barrio's Bravest." Police Department: In her 2003 book, "23rd Precinct: The Job," author Arlene Schulman spent two years documenting New York City's 23rd Precinct. CLICK TO ENLARGE
